Good News: Marriage Amendments Gain Support
Marriage-protection amendments in California, Arizona and Florida are gaining support.
The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, which has 2.5 million members, has announced its support for the three marriage amendments.
"I believe, and so does our church body, so strongly in the institution of marriage as being simply but significantly between one man and one woman," the Rev. Dr. Gerald Kieschnick, president of the church body, told Family News in Focus. "We are compelled by our care and concern and love for families in the United States and throughout the world to speak about the matter."
Cathi Herrod, president of The Center for Arizona Policy, said her state's marriage campaign is drawing support from across denominational lines.
"The Yes for Marriage campaign is thrilled to welcome the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church among our supporters," she said.
In California, a statewide bus tour is helping to rally support for Prop. 8, which would define marriage as the union between one man and one woman.
The bus tour hit the road Monday and wraps up Oct. 27. The Yes on 8 campaign also has unveiled a new Prop 8 TV ad, showing how gay "marriage" will affect what's taught in schools
