Arizona Republic Column October 11, 2008 - Robert Robb
Ordinarily, I give a pass to street signs. However, the anti-102 signs are just too bizarre to ignore. Proposition 102 would amend the state constitution to say that marriage is only between a man and a woman. It's intended to preclude the Legislature or the courts sanctioning same-sex marriage. Opponents want to keep the option of same-sex marriage being adopted without a public vote alive. But that's highly unlikely to be a successful opposition message. So, their street signs say “keep politicians out of marriage” and “trust the people.” But those are arguments for Proposition 102. With it, politicians (and judges) couldn't change the definition of marriage. Only the people could.
